The Google Business Profile Checklist for Chattanooga Businesses
Your Google Business Profile often matters more than your website for “near me” searches. Use this checklist to see what’s missing.
Short answer: a strong Google Business Profile is complete, accurate and active. For “near me” searches in Chattanooga, it’s often the first thing a customer sees — before your website, before your ads, before anything else.
Use this checklist to see how yours stacks up.
The basics
- Business name: your real name, exactly as it appears on your sign. No extra keywords — Google can suspend profiles for that.
- Address or service area: show your address if customers come to you. If you go to them, list the towns you actually serve.
- Phone number: one main local number, the same one on your website.
- Hours: accurate, including holiday hours. Few things annoy a customer more than driving to a closed shop.
- Website link: pointing to your homepage or the most relevant service page.
Categories and services
- Primary category: the most specific one that describes your main business.
- Additional categories: only ones that genuinely fit.
- Services: list each one, ideally with a short description.
Common mistake: picking a broad category because it sounds bigger. Specific categories usually match more of the searches that turn into customers.
Photos
- A clear logo and cover photo
- Real photos of your work, your team, your storefront or your trucks
- New photos added regularly — not just once at setup
Profiles with recent, real photos look active. Stock photos look like nobody’s home.
Reviews
- A steady flow of new reviews, not a burst from two years ago
- A reply to every review — thank the good ones, address the bad ones calmly
- No incentives for reviews — Google prohibits them
Staying active
- Posts: share updates, offers or recent projects every week or two.
- Questions & answers: answer questions customers ask on your profile.
- Messages: if you turn them on, answer them quickly.
Your profile is your storefront on Maps. Keep the lights on.
Red flags that hold profiles back
- Different phone numbers or addresses on your profile, website and directories
- Duplicate profiles for the same business
- Months without a new review or update
- A website that doesn’t back up what the profile says you do
